JUNE – LUCKY – The Difference a Dental Can Make

Stanthorpe’s Oldest Warrior

Lucky is a tough rough old fella, his mother convinced him to go see Dr. Megan Bridger for a health assessment. As stubborn as he may seem, he knew it was the right thing to do. For this 19yr old Ginger Cat, it was important for him to be a good role model for his Cat Community. He got in his carrier and his mum drove him to the clinic. He confessed that lately, he hasn’t been able to eat his food. Cats are very good at hiding pain. Dr. Megan’s main concern for him was his teeth and found an abscess on his tooth.

Lucky’s Lengthy Dental Procedure

Performing in-house pathology tests are really important. These tests give us a clearer indication of how the internal organs are functioning, and whether the patient can handle the anesthetic drugs. For Lucky we performed a full blood screening, Dr. Megan checked his results and gave him the tick of approval! This fella can handle anything!

Dr. Megan and Nurse Sophie captured dental radiographs of his teeth. These radiographs provide Dr. Megan an image of which teeth are healthy and which teeth to extract by looking at the roots of the teeth. Lucky had multiple simple and complex extractions. He received intravenous fluids prior to and after his dental.

Lucky had a smooth recovery, he was wrapped up in warm cozy blankets, along with a soft pillow to rest his little head-on. Nurse Sophie took care of him postoperatively. He whispered a beautiful calm meow. Nurse Sophie felt a sense of sweetness from the old fella and felt his meow was a big thank you.

His owners have noticed a huge difference in his behavior, happiness, and eating habits. After his dental procedure, he’s been able to eat a decent meal, looks and feels a lot more comfortable. This old fella has improved his health dramatically. Age does not define what you can achieve, and Lucky is a great example. We praise his owners for doing a wonderful thing in providing him with the love and support he deserves.
