At SVCS we regularly diagnose and treat ophthalmic conditions and have extensive diagnostic tools to perform thorough ophthalmic examinations and as we say ‘more is missed by not looking than but not knowing’. Our state of the art Tonovet is used to measure intraocular pressure, while our direct opthalmoscope and Flintoff illuminator are used to look inside the eye. We also have special stains and UV light to diagnose corneal ulceration/trauma.

Common ophthalmic diseases we see and treat (both surgically and medically) include:

  • ‘Dry eye’ (keratoconjunctivitis sicca)
  • ‘Cherry eye’ (protrusion of the 3rd eyelid gland)
  • Grass seeds
  • Feline herpesvirus and Chlamydia infection (flu)
  • Eyelid tumors and trauma
  • Rolled in eyelids (entropian)
  • Simple and complicated corneal ulceration
